EllaDean’s story

Emily and Colby Howerton were thrilled to welcome their first baby, EllaDean, to their family. At their 20-week scan, doctors found a hole in EllaDean’s heart. Before Emily gave birth, she and Colby met with Vincent Tam, M.D., Medical Director, Cardiothoracic Surgery, to develop a plan. At 10 days old, EllaDean underwent her first surgery. She defied the odds and returned home four weeks post-operation. She underwent two additional surgeries, one at 6 months and another at 4 years old, and today she is a happy, healthy 7-year-old. EllaDean recently started dance, and she enjoys being a great big sister to her baby brother, Ladd.
