Our impact

Care for every child

Jewel Charity was founded on a shared belief that all children deserve high-quality, accessible health care, regardless of their family’s ability to pay. Today, more than 70 years later, our members continue to honor our Founders’ mission to provide for the health and well-being of the patients at Cook Children’s by raising funds to support uncompensated care.

More than $85 million raised

Since 1953, our members have raised more than $85 million, making Jewel Charity the largest single-donor organization to Cook Children’s. Though uncompensated care has remained our primary focus, we are proud to have supported other signature programs and projects such as the Cook Children’s Cancer Center, Jane and John Justin Neurosciences Center and the Protecting Your Tomorrows campaign in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cook Children’s Endocrinology Department

Led by Dr. Paul Thornton, the Cook Children’s Endocrinology Department is a rare jewel. In addition to 10 specialty programs, the Endocrinology Department also supports virtually every specialty area within the hospital by providing oversight and management of patients’ endocrine system before, during and following treatment.

In addition to the Uncompensated Care Program, Jewel Charity is pleased to raise essential funds for the Endocrinology Department for the first time in our 72-year history.

A CENTER OF EXCELLENCE

In 2021, Cook Children’s Hyperinsulinism Center was named as a Hyperinsulinism Center of Excellence by Congenital Hyperinsulinism International. The designation, one of only six in the world, recognizes centers that provide the highest level of multi-disciplinary care to congenital hyperinsulinism patients and their families.

World-class care, right here in Fort Worth

When a child is diagnosed with a complex condition, families want the best possible care. For more than 72 years, Jewel Charity has raised essential funds to support the Uncompensated Care Fund at Cook Children’s, so that every child can receive the care they need, regardless of their family’s ability to pay.
